The 2015 Season Begins

2015 is here, and Colleen is in Aiken, SC, for the season. Stabled off of Green Hill Road, she and head girl, Alex Ambelang, shipped 10 horses down with them this past week.

Among the cast of characters is 4* phenom Shiraz, Colleen’s homebred superstar Covert Rights (CR) and the most recent addition, OTTB Iron Willed, whom she is riding for Pat Dale of Three Plain Bays Farm.

On tap first, Colleen is participating as a demo rider aboard CR in the Instructors’ Certification Program (ICP) with British Olympian Chris Bartle on Jan. 19 & 20 in Ocala, FL. “Chris has coached some of the best riders and horses in the world, and this is a phenomenal opportunity to not just experience his teaching, but to get his evaluation of CR and me personally.”

Colleen is gearing up to run Advanced at Pine Top (Thomson, GA, Feb. 19-22) with Shiraz, Covert Rights and Escot 6, who is making his Advanced debut. Shiraz and Covert Rights will contest the CIC3* at Carolina (Raeford, NC, March 19-22) with Escot 6 having another run at Advanced and then, hopefully, all three in the CIC3* at The Fork (Norwood NC, April 1-5).

And if all this isn’t enough, Colleen is also planning on running back to Maryland most Mondays for family time and to teach her students at the farm. She is also available for lessons for those in Aiken. Call her at 240-674-0327 to schedule.

Our Forgiving Horses – Holly Covey, Horsejunkiesunited.com

“Put pictures in your mind of riders you admire and love to watch perform. Google their videos, and watch them ride every chance you get online. And it does work – you will make your body do what your mind can picture! Pretend you are Colleen Rutledge at Rolex, or Jennie Brannigan at Fair Hill. Dreams do come true. Work hard at them.” Read the entire editorial here.

GOALS: To be the first rider EVER to complete five four-star three-day events on the same horse. So far we’ve done Rolex ’11, Burghley ’11, Luhmühlen ’12, Pau ’12, all four completed with no penalties! Now Shiraz and I are turning our sites to the Spring 2013 Badminton CCI4*(hopefully without excessive rain)! I’m also looking forward to the 2013 Jersey Fresh CCI2* with Covert Rights. On the personal side, I’d like to cut down my book consumption to an average of 1 per day!

“A hero is someone you really admire; a person whose strength, achievement, fortitude, outlook, or demeanor is above and beyond the ordinary. A hero to you might be someone who has saved lives, like first responders or doctors and nurses. … I think Colleen Rutledge is one of the most mentally focused and strongest eventers in not only the U.S., but the world.” [read full post]
