We are excited to announce Colleen’s acceptance into the 2015 Thoroughbred Makeover from the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP).

Competing for over $100,000 in cash and prizes to the top placed horses in 10 equestrian disciplines, Colleen will be participating with two 5-year-old geldings owned by Pat Dale of Three Plain Bays in Conowingo, MD.

Your A to Zs

“Your A to Zs” is a 16.1 hand liver chestnut found by Sara Stanoszek at Mountaineer Park in WVa.  Beck has had 60 days let down and has joined Colleen in Aiken. To date, no one has sat on him or free jumped him.

Navajo Ca Lo

Colleen’s second Challenge mount came to Pat via  ReRun from Lisa Molloy and Hurricane Boys/Nick Zito. “Navajo Ca Lo” is eyeballed at 16.1, and is currently getting his down time. He last raced 1/1/2015 and has been letting down. He too, will travel South to Aiken Mid February for some sun and slow restart.

“We are going to see what the new boys feelings are on being an event horses,” said Rutledge. “As they are both 5- we might be aiming the towards the Young Event Horse championships in October as well, if they show the propensity. I’m excited for any type of program that shows the true nature of our thoroughbred.”

The Makeover will take place at the Kentucky Horse Park October 23-25.

Our Forgiving Horses – Holly Covey,

“Put pictures in your mind of riders you admire and love to watch perform. Google their videos, and watch them ride every chance you get online. And it does work – you will make your body do what your mind can picture! Pretend you are Colleen Rutledge at Rolex, or Jennie Brannigan at Fair Hill. Dreams do come true. Work hard at them.” Read the entire editorial here.

GOALS: To be the first rider EVER to complete five four-star three-day events on the same horse. So far we’ve done Rolex ’11, Burghley ’11, Luhmühlen ’12, Pau ’12, all four completed with no penalties! Now Shiraz and I are turning our sites to the Spring 2013 Badminton CCI4*(hopefully without excessive rain)! I’m also looking forward to the 2013 Jersey Fresh CCI2* with Covert Rights. On the personal side, I’d like to cut down my book consumption to an average of 1 per day!

“A hero is someone you really admire; a person whose strength, achievement, fortitude, outlook, or demeanor is above and beyond the ordinary. A hero to you might be someone who has saved lives, like first responders or doctors and nurses. … I think Colleen Rutledge is one of the most mentally focused and strongest eventers in not only the U.S., but the world.” [read full post]
